Learn the Alphabet Dance

Dance At Home Age 5-12
Create an Alphabet through Dance

This is the first course in ARTS:LIVE’s Dance Your Socks Off series. Create an Alphabet Dance combining movements and chants, using your body in a percussive and rhythmic way.

The Alphabet Dance requires you to create a series of movements that represents each letter of the alphabet. This activity provides students with an opportunity to explore different dance styles, use their bodies in creative ways and practice spelling at the same time.

This fun dance activity for groups can be performed in any style of dance and can include references to different cultures, interests and experiences within the group.

This is a valuable resource for the Dance curriculum for the middle primary years. It has clear relevance to both the arts strands, Making and Responding. The learning activities provide significant opportunities for students to structure and document dance sequences, and present their dance sequences to an audience. The activities also assist students to recognise origins of movement including social and cultural influences.

The activities are of significant value in promoting Dance in the curriculum. The activities are structured to provide for all levels of capability in Dance. The video provides a clear demonstration and is supported by learning activities that are scaffolded and provide students with opportunities to work independently and in small groups, as well as share their dance online.
